Creating sample lines

Sample lines are the basis for generating sections and section views for your road design. In this video you'll learn how to create and manipulate sample lines so that you can prepare to create sections and section views for your design. I'll begin by launching the Sample Lines command. Which is as easy as clicking Sample Lines on the home tab of the ribbon. Civil 3D will ask me to tell it what alignment I want to generate sample lines for. So I can either pick from the drawing, or I can press Enter and select from a list alignments that exist in the drawing. I'll pick Shady Ridge Lane and click OK. Next I've gotta answer some questions about the Sample Line Group that I'm creating. The way that sample lines are stored in Civil 3D, first of all, is that they're stored within groups, and those groups are stored beneath alignments. We'll look in a moment at the prospector tab, and you'll see how the Sample Line Groups are arranged, with alignments as their parent, in the prospector. In…
