Creating a design profile
Design profiles are used to establish the proposed elevations of your corridor. In this video, you'll learn about the specialized tools that Civil 3D provides for drawing design profiles. For most road designs, the goals that you're going to try to accomplish with your design profile is to smooth out some of the bumps in the road, address some of the areas that are too flat by adding some slope, and address some areas that are too steep by flattening out the slope a bit. You may also have other physical constraints that you're trying to meet. Perhaps you're trying to avoid some underground infrastructure or you have some over head clearances to deal with. But generally, we're trying to stay as close to existing ground as possible while smoothing out the riding experience of any vehicles that are going to travel down this road. The reason we want to stay close to existing ground is because the closer we can be, the less we'll have cut and fill, or excavation, to build this road. And…
