Creating an alignment from existing geometry
Sometimes, it's easier to draw a few simple lines or offset other geometry, and then create alignments from that geometry. In this video, you'll learn how to create parts of alignments and even complete alignments by utilizing construction geometry that has been pre-drawn to aid in the layout. Let's get started. In this drawing, you see some simple geometry that's been provided ahead of time to establish some key geometric properties that we'd like our alignments to have. First of all, we'll look at this green polyline which was actually created by offsetting the existing road center line, and then trimming it back a little bit so that's it started and ended at the locations that you see. For this polyline, I can convert the entire thing to an alignment by picking on the Alignment Menu > Create Alignment from Objects. I'll launch the command, select the polyline, and press Enter.
