- [Voiceover] The first step in this approach lot grading is to assign elevations from key surfaces to key parcel lines or feature lines in the drawing. Let's take a look at how this is done. We're taking a very simplified approach to this lot grading design. We've kind of minimized it down to just a single row of lots and we've got pretty basic parameters as far as elevations are concerned. What we'd like to do is have the fronts of the lots match the road surface and the backs of the lots match existing ground surface. Now in different projects or in different areas of the same project, you may have different conditions in the back. You may want the back lot line to match a certain design surface, or maybe it's adjacent to another row of lots that you want to grade more specifically. In the front it's usually pretty set. You want to follow the elevations of the road because everything is kind of set by the road elevations. But what happens in the back may vary. So again we're taking…
