Join Jeff Bartels for an in-depth discussion in this video Adding breaklines to improve accuracy, part of Civil 3D 2016 Essential Training.
- After adjusting the build properties,…the next step in refining a surface is to add breaklines.…Breaklines will force the surface triangles…to follow the linear features of the existing site.…In this lessons, we'll add breaklines to a surface.…I'm going to split the screen.…I'll do that by opening the Viewports in Canvas menu.…I'll come down to Viewport Configuration LIst.…And I'll choose Two Vertical.…Then in this view on the right,…I'm going to zoom in on the western half of the surface.…And then I'll change the visual style to Shaded.…
I will then click to put the focus on this view on the left.…And I'll zoom in on the surface.…Sometimes it helps to think of a surface…as being a large sheet of paper.…And each of the triangle edges represents a fold…or a crest in the paper.…In order for the paper to accurately reflect…the existing conditions,…it needs to fold along the edges of linear features.…For example, right here we can see that the triangle lines…follow the northern edge of pavement.…For that reason we have a nice edge in the surface.…
