In this video, Russ introduces you to the basics of OSPF and how it works. Learn how OSPF functions and how it exchanges information within the OSPF topology.
- [Instructor] The first dynamic routing protocol that we…are really going to dive into is OSPF…or open shortest path first.…Now this is a popular routing protocol…that is used by many large networks today.…Now OSPF is an industry standard, meaning it's open…to anyone or any vendor that wants to use it.…So this dynamic routing protocol compared…to other routing protocols is highly scalable.…Now OSPF is an interior gateway protocol so it can't grow to…the size of the internet like BGP can,…but among the interior gateway routing protocols,…this is the most scalable.…
Now OSPF like I just said, is an interior gateway protocol.…And it runs inside of your autonomous system.…Remember I want you to think company wide here,…this fear of control of your organization.…And like we said earlier, link state protocols…maintain a map or database of the entire topology.…OSPF is no different.…Now one caveat here is that OSPF maintains that link state…map of the database within each area of OSPF.…
And we'll talk a little bit more about that later.…
