Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
- [Instructor] In order to assure that all devices and servers and printers are operating correctly, network administrators can use a variety of tools and techniques. Many administers use Simple Network Management Protocol, which gathers and reports information on the status of the network devices. SNMP has the following main components. The SNMP manager, which is also known as the network management server, gathers information from the SNMP agents. And the managed devices, which include any device that requires monitoring, such as workstations, printers, routers, switches, or servers. The SNMP agent collects data from the device and then stores the information in a local management information database on the device and sends the status to the SNMP manager when queried by the manager. The management information base, or, as some call it, management information database, is where the agent's references are stored in a hierarchy format.
