Learn about the basics of quality of service and why you would need to implement quality of service and the theory behind it.
- [Instructor] All right, so let's take a moment…to talk about Quality of Service.…I know we covered this in our voice section of switch,…but we're going to dive a little deeper…and look at other traffic besides voice…and actually take some time to read through…what is what for Quality of Service.…The first thing to know is your routers or…when we're moving traffic right off the bat,…normal operations is best effort.…We're going to take whatever traffic comes in first…and we're going to try and move it as quickly as possible.…
If things start stacking up,…if our router can't move the traffic…as fast as it's coming in, we develop a queue.…That queue is first come first serve,…just like your line at Subway.…The first person in stands in line…is going to get their sandwich next.…Now, this is the way of things without Quality of Service.…This can be a problem if we start having…some congestion in our network where…now we start dropping voice traffic…or voice traffic is no longer usable…because obviously that is a real time application,…
