- [Instructor] In this video, we want to talk about the dynamic host configuration protocol or DHCP. That's how our Cisco IP phones are going to be getting their IP address information and some other important information such as where do they go to get their configuration file? Before we get into that configuration on a communications manager server, let's do a quick review of DHCP. DHCP uses a four step process for a client to obtain IP address information from a server. And the memory aid that I would offer to you is from a TV show that my daughters used to watch when they were little. I think it was on Nickelodeon. It was called "Dora the Explorer". Remember with backpack and map and the reason I think of Dora is that door's name D-O-R-A reminds us of the four steps of the DHCP process. The D in Dora reminds us of the D in the discover message.
