Security implications of a PVLAN

- [Instructor] Private VLAN or port isolation is a technique used in which the switch ports are configured to communicate only with a specific link. Private VLANS further segment and isolate a VLAN into smaller VLANS. Service providers use private VLANS to keep customers isolated from one another. Primary VLANS will forward frames to downstream or secondary VLANS. Here we see the primary VLAN, VLAN 200, and the secondary VLANS. Private VLANS can be configured as a community or isolated. With a community configuration, the switch ports associated with a common community VLAN can communicate with each other and with the primary VLAN and receive broadcast traffic, but cannot communicate with any other secondary VLAN. An isolated configuration will be where the switch ports associated with an isolated VLAN can reach the primary VLAN but not any other secondary VLANS.
