- [Instructor] Spam goes with malware, spyware, phishing, and pharming. And they're all dangerous and criminals continue to use email to deliver a payload, as email provides a convenient way to reach victims on a global scale. How much spam is out there? Well, I'm at this website, Talos, where we can get some statistics on actually how much is legitimate email and how much is spam. I'll scroll down here and all the results are current. Here you can see total global email and spam volume for May 2018. Here we see a doughnut chart. And the larger portion of that, in orange, is spam. The smaller portion in blue is legitimate email. I'll scroll down here and as you can see, the total volume in billions, over the past 18 months, we see significant amount of that is spam. We'll go back to, you can actually filter by week, and also by month, if we go out, as I said, long-term, say, for example, over 18 months, you'll see some peaks in spam.
