- [Presenter] Although most devices have advanced configuration options there are several essential best practices the network administrator should implement. Physically secure the devices by housing them in a locked room with adequate cooling and moisture control. Synchronize time and date using a protocol such as network time protocol. Diagram the network so it's easier to troubleshoot and maintain the network. Back up configurations to a central location. Password protect all access points. You'll want to configure different passwords for the following and don't reuse passwords. Configure passwords to login mode to restrict initial access. To privileged mode to prevent unauthorized configuration changes. And console, auxiliary, and VTY interfaces. Enable event logging and if possible back up to a syslog server.
