- [Narrator] While in the past, antivirus was sufficient protection, today's threats are more aggressive. Most consumers and businesses turn to antimalware protection, which defends against all forms of malware. That includes viruses, worms, trojans, spyware, phishing sites, adware and rootkits. Antimalware protection is part of a layered security approach, as there are many ways for malware to attack your system, such as browsing the internet, browser add-ons, and even the operating system. Antimalware runs in the background. Depending on your program, the process may be called background or real-time protection, or something similar. Antimalware monitors your system as you download software, open documents or extract files.
