- [Instructor] In this lesson, we're going to be talking a bit about digit manipulation, but before we get into how we manipulate digits in a phone call, or why we would want to manipulate those digits let's define a few terms in this video. The first term I want you to know is DNIS, D-N-I-S and that stands for dialed number information service and the DNIS in a phone call is the dialed number. For example, if we're on the PSTN, let's say we're in California, for example, and we're dialing a phone in Kentucky with a phone number of (859) 555-1020. The number we dial from California is going to begin with a one because that's the North American country code and this is a long distance call but it's within the country what we're going to be calling a national call. So we're going to dial that country code plus the number the area code and the subscriber number. And that number that we actually key in to the telephone…
