Join George Maestri for an in-depth discussion in this video Manipulate objects in Maya, part of Introduction to 3D.
- [Voiceover] Now let's start manipulating objects.…As you can see we've got some objects…in this scene,…and these are actually the parts of the characters…that we were working with.…You can see that we have some feet,…some hands, the torso and the head,…as well as the various hats and caps…that we had on the characters.…Now we can assemble a character…by selecting, moving, and rotating these objects.…So let's start off with selection.…Now selection in Maya is the default mode.…
By default you're in select mode.…If you're not you can always hit this button here…to get into select.…Another way to get into it is to hit the hotkey Q,…so the letter Q puts you into select mode.…Once I'm in select mode…all I have to do is left-click on any object…to select it.…Now if I want to select nothing…all I have to do is left-click outside…of the objects…and that will deselect.…Now if I want to select multiple objects…I can left-click and drag…and draw a box around what I want to select.…
So anything that falls within the box…gets selected,…
