In addition to its artistic effect, film grain often adds perceived sharpness as well. In this video, instructor Derrick Story shows how to use the Film Grain tool to improve your images in Capture One Pro 12.
- [Instructor] Film grain is located in the details tab … and I like it in particular for black and white work … and sometimes in architecture the color is fine … and I go, oh but what I really want is a monochrome shot … with a little bit of silvery kind of film grain. … And I want to show you that right now. … We've been playing with this shot right here … but what I did was I created a cloned variant of it … and I just did that by holding down the Control key, … that'd be for both Mac and Windows … and then cloning the variant … and that picks up all of our corrections … and everything that we've done so far. … And then what I did after I cloned it, … I went over to black and white … and I converted it to monochrome … and of course that's over here in the color tab. … There's black and white right there. … Okay, so I converted it there. … And that brings us … to the point where we can play with film grain. … And we have some different types here. … I like silver rich a lot … but you can look at all the different types. …
