- [Narrator] In captivate, on each individual slide, every item that appears on the screen is also represented below, here in the timeline. You as the developer, have the ability to control when and for how long each item appears. We'll practice with that now. So just note that you can open and close the timeline at anytime just by double clicking on it just like that. So, we're going to be working on the last slide of the ATM PIN number reset project. So I'm going to go ahead and scroll down to that slide. And you can see here that we have a number of things on the screen that overlap.
And that's because our intention is to have them appear at different times in sync with audio. So, if you look in the timeline, you can see the individual objects. We'll start with the one here on the screen from the beginning. And you can see that it is also highlighted here on the timeline as part of this darker blue color. And it also shows here that it's a smart shape and it says up in the properties that this is a smart shape. So, the next item down here on the timeline-- If you select it in the timeline, it's selected on the stage as well. And this is that Globe Bank logo and it's an image and it says here in the timeline that it's an image and it says that up in the properties as well.
So we also have this other text caption here that looks like a box. It says thank you. And so that's the third item from the top here in the timeline. And the next item down is this exit button and that is actually a smart shape. That is acting as a button. And finally, we have the final item which is the image of the office workers. So, looking at the timeline, you can see that all the objects appear on screen for about 3 3/4 seconds. And if you want to see more of the timeline and be able to have a little more detail, you can use this change zoom slider here underneath the timeline to adjust your view.
So that's a little better. So, at this point, let's go ahead and add in the audio for this slide. So, we're going to do that by going to the media menu and we're going to choose audio. In the start folder for the exercise files, we're going to choose thankyou.wav. And captivate is going to bring that in and if you scroll to the right here in the timeline, you'll see that it has extended our slide to just past 13 seconds. Now, you might have gotten a message from captivate. I didn't get it this time. But, if captivate asks you a question about should I extend all of the objects of the screen to match the duration of the audio, you should say yes.
So actually, I'm going to go and change my zoom again on my timeline because I want to see everything just in one window here. Great, so let's go ahead and listen to that audio. I'm going to click this little play button here at the lower left of the timeline. - [Automated Voice] From the beginning, it's been our goal to incorporate world class services with an unmatched level or responsiveness and thoughtfulness, no matter what your level of banking need. From all of us at Globe Bank, thank you. - [Narrator] Cool, so what we want to do, is have this box that says from the beginning it's been our goal.
That's going to appear on the screen until the point in the audio where it says thank you. At that point, that box is going to go away and the thank you and Globe Bank logo are going to come up as well as the exit button. Let's find the point in the audio where the thank you is and just because I'm familiar with this audio, I know it's right here around 12 seconds. You can kind of see the flat area here in the audio. The bumpy parts is where there's talking and the flat parts is usually where there's a breath or silence. So, I'm just going to click there and you can see that red play head that shows up.
I'm going to click play just to make sure that's it. - [Automated Voice] Thank you. - [Narrator] We want to have this box, the from the beginning box, disappear right before those words. So, I'm just going to approach the right side of that on the timeline. And you can see I get a double headed arrow here and I'm just going to click and drag. And I'm going to slide that to the left and it just kind of snaps right to the play head there. And, perfect. So, as soon as the play head hits that, this box is going to disappear. Let's do the next item here which is the Globe Bank logo.
And I want that to start at the audio that says thank you. So, here on the left side I'm going to click and drag that and bring that over so it starts right there at about 12 seconds. We're going to do the same thing for thank you. So, I'm going to click that here in the timeline. And click and drag and take that over. And there we go. And we need to do the same thing for the exit button. So, I'm going to click and drag that over. Now, if you go over to the right and you kind of go eh, eh. I can't get that over there. It's because that pause point.
So, what you should do is approach that pause point with your mouse and you get a different kind of double headed arrow and you kind of bring that over here to the left. Just click and drag. And that's a little better. And now we'll take this over to the right and that should work just fine. That's pretty much what we have to do. The picture of the office staff standing there, we want that to remain on screen the whole time. So, I'm just going to move the play head to the beginning here by clicking this little button. And let's watch it and see how it looks. - [Automated Voice] From the beginning, it's been our goal to incorporate world class services with an unmatched level of responsiveness and thoughtfulness no matter what your level of banking need.
From all of us at Globe Bank, thank you. - [Narrator] Great, so the last thing I want to add in is some transition, some fade in and fade out just to kind of soften the transition from the one part to the next. So, we're going to start with the from the beginning box. So, I'm going to click that again here in the timeline. Up here in the properties, I'm going to move over to the timing tab and I'm going to scroll down to this little drop down here that says transition. We're going to change it from no transition to fade out only.
I don't want it to fade in or anything. It's just going to appear on the screen when we start out the slide but it's going to fade out at the end. You can see that fade out is going to take half a second. Right, so it's kind of the opposite for the other items here. For the Globe Bank logo, still here in the timing area. And transition, I'm going to change that to fade in only. We're going to do the same thing for the thank you box, fade in only and then also for the button as well. So, instead of watching it on the timeline here, this time let's go to preview and watch it from this slide.
- [Automated Voice] From the beginning, it's been our goal to incorporate world class services with an unmatched level of responsiveness and thoughtfulness no matter what your level of banking need. From all of us at Globe Bank, thank you. - [Narrator] Cool. So, and we can even test the exit button and it works. So, when you're previewing a project and something comes on screen too early or too late or maybe it disappears before it should and so on. Well, now you've seen how to adjust the timing and simple fade in and fade out effects of individual objects on the screen.
