- To maintain compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act all videos for state, government and education must be captioned. If you are not producing a video for one of these groups you should still caption your movies so that your great content is available to everyone. In this chapter, we'll look at how to manually create your own captions and how to automatically generate a captions file and add it to your movie. Make sure that you've finished editing your whole movie before adding captions. Captions can be found in the audio effects panel, which can be opened by pressing the "d" key on your keyboard and applied, by dragging the captions widget onto a clip in your timeline. A captionings bar will appear. This effect will automatically create four second segments for your entire movie where you can type in a text transcript for that segment.
