Fast-track your first recording

- All right. Camtasia is fired up and you are ready to jump in and create your first video. I'm going to show you the down and dirty method for doing just that. In other videos, we'll look at advanced capture and production options, but for this video, we're just going to be capturing a basic voice and screen capture recording. Step one, click Record. Now I'm going to choose my recording options here. The first thing I'm going to do is enable screen capture. From here, choose your full screen option. Yours may look a little different. Just make sure it's the full screen. I'm going to skip over the web cam. We'll look at that in another tutorial. I'm also going to enable my microphone. And from the drop down, choose your best microphone. You may have other options. Let's take a look at the levels here. As I'm speaking in my normal presentation voice, I want to adjust this until I'm hitting in the low negative numbers. If I get up here and I'm hitting red, that is too loud. Anything red, back it off. And also turn on your system audio. That's your computer sounds. I always record system audio. All right, now, take a breath, relax, and hit Start Recording. Camtasia gives me a countdown. From this point on, Camtasia is recording everything I see, hear, and say. I can record a presentation, walk my viewers through a website, or create a tutorial about pretty much anything. If it's on my laptop, Camtasia can capture it. Now, when I'm finished, I can tap Option + Command + 2 on the keyboard to stop recording, or I can go up here and choose Stop Recording. Camtasia adds my recording to the timeline, and I'm ready to edit or share my video. In another tutorial, I'll show you how to share your video the easy way.
