A high vantage point

- I'm atop Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park in Maine, and Cadillac Mountain has the distinction of being the place where you're able to see the sunrise first in the United States. But we're not up here at sunrise, we're here at sunset. A little bit before sunset, maybe about another half an hour to go. It's always interesting to me, when you're at a beautiful viewpoint around sunset, that most of the people are looking toward the sunset. They're here to enjoy the view itself, but the photographers tend to be pointed in the other direction, because by and large, we're going to tend to want to photograph the light that that late afternoon light, that sunset, is creating. Sometimes we want the sun in the frame, but I find more often than not I'm pointing the other way, and that's certainly the case here. We have some wonderful play of light and shadow against these rocks, the boulders with the lichen, some trees off in the distance. And so what I want to do is essentially create…
