A high vantage point review

- It certainly feels special being atop Cadillac Mountain knowing it is the spot in the U.S. where you're first able to see the rising sun. Of course, I was there at sunset but it still was fun to be up there. And I wanted to capture an image that conveyed the feeling of being there, the sense that you were up high, and yet there was so much landscape spreading out before you, the water, of course, the islands in the background, and the really interesting landscape atop Cadillac Mountain as well. The light was very nice, as you can see, and so I started working with various compositions. I wanted to include the play of light on the various trees, the shadows in the background, as well as the rocks, of course, and so I tried to find an angle that worked well. This shot I felt was working pretty well, but the bottom right corner is just a little bit too dark and it really doesn't add much to the photo and in fact serves as a little bit of a distraction, I felt, and so I started playing…
