- Tripods are a fantastic tool in your toolkit. They hold your camera steady, they hold it straight, they can hold it pointed up, at an angle, all kinds of directions, but one thing that tripods aren't that great at is holding you camera pointing straight down. Now some tripod heads are actually specialized in a way that they can rotate like that and they do allow you to point straight down but even those sometimes the legs can get in the way. So if you regularly need to photograph things straight down, whether you're copying documents or photographs or other artwork or maybe shooting products or flowers or really anything where you want to do straight down, I've got a great DIY project for you. Doesn't cost very much money to make and as you're going to see, we have quite a few options in how we put it together.
