- To state the obvious, your camera needs power in order to run. There are external adapters, like this one here, which will allow you to plug the camera into a wall, to run it directly, but, most of the time, you're going to be running on a rechargeable battery. It's a good idea to make sure that that battery is fully charged before you use your camera for the first time. Now, you could do this while the battery is inserted in the camera, and charge through the USB port, and there is an included charger for that, or take advantage of one of the dedicated external chargers, like this one here. Let's insert a battery; this is pretty straightforward. To do this, start by opening the battery chamber cover. This is located on the bottom of the camera. Push this tab and it'll pop up. You'll notice that inside is the opening. You just take your battery, and it will only fit one way, so if you load it the wrong way, it won't go in.
