- Today's cameras have a plethora of buttons on them, and some of the newer cameras have a lot of programmable buttons making the camera more convenient to use, but also possibly a little bit more challenging to learn. Let's go back a few years to this older Canon model. You'll see it has a row of buttons across the top, and some on the back here, and they're all pretty clearly labeled. What they do is pretty well set in stone. This Sony on the other hand has a button called Fn on it. What is Fn? Well it's a function button, and you can make it do any number of things. The Lumix that I'll be working with throughout this chapter actually has a whole bunch of buttons on it that you can reprogram, this is fantastic, it really allows you to totally customize your camera, but again, it can make it just a little bit harder to get used to and to understand exactly what your camera can do.
