What is HiDPI (retina)?

- To kick this course off, I figured we needed to answer the question of what HiDPI or retina is exactly. Well, a lot of us have heard retina in the past. And that's actually a marketing term created by Apple. And it refers to a screen with high resolution in a relatively small format. HiDPI is a more generic term. Apple, I guess you could say (chuckles) led the charge as far as this retina trend or working with a higher density screen, but a lot of other devices including Microsoft, Android devices, Google, et cetera, are becoming, or are HiDPI, which is essentially the same thing, it's just HiDPI is more generic. On the original Apple retina devices, which there's a listing out there you can find. The resolution of the screen was essentially doubled, so that the total number of pixels was increased. So for instance, on a standard-density screen, on a non-HiDPI screen, if we think in terms of pixels, and honestly, this is more complex than I'm making it sound, behind the scenes…
