- [Instructor] A tooltip is a brief informative message that appears when a user interacts with an element in a graphical user interface. Tooltips are generally on demand, meaning that when the user hover, clicks, taps or focuses on the trigger, then the message is displayed. Although tooltips are mainly limited to desktop computers and laptops because they're generally initiated by hover, they do have a sister element that is common on touch screen devices. Those are called popup tips. Both tooltips and popup tips have the same goal, to provide helpful additional content. To keep things simple here, I'm going to refer to these as help tips. In our Sea Garden website, we'll be adding help tips to the Password field so that we can give a little further explanation on how the user should enter the password, and on our City field, just telling our user why we might want to collect this information.
