- [Narrator] In their 2006 Harvard Business Review article, Kotler, Rackham and Krishnaswamy stated that Collateral materials are developed to help the sales force attract customers and close sales. In our context, affiliates are our sales force. And even prior to applying to your affiliate program they will preview your collateral or creative materials to see what they will have to work with. It's important to offer them quality collateral. Understand that you are equipping them with it to help them market you, and to drive business to you. The most common types of affiliate program collateral may be split into five groups. The first is text links. A few years ago, when comparing performance of affiliate text links to that of banners and produce links, we discovered that text links outperformed banners and product links both on click-through rate and on conversion rate.
