Creating the new topology
- Now that we've gone over the polygon pen tool and the general strategy for retopologizing a model, let's dig in and start creating some polygons. I will tell you that my general strategy, and it's by no means applicable to everyone, but the way I like to work is to start with the more difficult areas. So I'm going to start with more of a complex structure like this energy weapon on top, or you could start at the wing, or perhaps right on the engine, and that way you know that you have enough geometry to form this shape and you don't wind up in a situation where perhaps you might start on the side of the ship and maybe you just got like three polygon rows and you're going to come up here and realize, oh, that's far too few to actually support the structure up here. I'm not going to actually use the polygon pen to create the model inside of a symmetry object because I find that confuses the polygon pen tool. So what I do is actually when I get to the center line points of the symmetry…
