The construction management digital age

- The construction industry is one of the largest industries in the world, with global construction spending expected to top over 12 trillion dollars in 2021. It accounts for between 6 and 8% of the gross domestic product in both the US and the UK. On the other hand, construction is also portrayed as one of the least digitized industries in the world, lagging far behind most others. But is that really true? And if so, why? These days, we use everything from lasers to drones to help us build out our construction projects. We have the capability to ditch paper blueprints and convert to digital drawings right now. And many designers are already designing in three dimensions and using information-rich building information models to present that information and data that we need to build in the field. So why is it that construction has such a difficult time joining the digital revolution? I think that part of it is just a reluctance to change and a how can this really help me today kind of attitude. Or even more importantly, I think there is a lingering question in peoples' minds about where to even start to get the best bang for your buck. Let me just say that I am a huge proponent of adopting digital technologies and digital workflows in the construction industry. And in this course, I'm going to do two things. One, I'll show you why I'm such a proponent by demonstrating real world, modern solutions to real world, age old problems. And two, I'll lay a foundation for you to understand the basics of digital technologies in the architecture, engineering and construction industry. So join me, Jim Rogers, in my course here on LinkedIn Learning to get up to speed quickly on the things that you need to know to be successful in tomorrow's AEC world.
