Why is construction productivity lagging?
- If you work in any way in AEC, the architecture, engineering, and construction industries, you've probably heard people talk about the construction industry's productivity problem. We actually see it in the news all the time. Productivity in construction's remained flat for the last 50 years while other industries have seen measurable improvements. We hear about construction projects being over on budget and over on schedule, and we hear about rework all the time, which is certainly one source of our productivity problem. Now, on the other hand though, if you're out there on the job site managing things, running crews, or doing the work, you might say, "Wait a minute. "I don't think we can go any faster, "and it's been a long time "since I missed the required completion date "that was in my contract." Okay, but are those things really the same as saying that the project is productive? And whether they are or not, if we do have a productivity problem, who is responsible and what can we do about it? This is a big discussion, but it's one that's really important to our industry. And it's what I'll cover here in my course on LinkedIn Learning.
