What to look for when buying a soldering iron
- Now, let's talk about buying your first soldering iron. There are a lot of different kinds of soldering irons out there. Fortunately, it's not too hard to find a good one, and they can be very inexpensive. So let's talk about the least expensive ones. They are ones like this, has a cord on one end, generic plastic handle, usually a big pointy soldering tip. This one happens to have a replaceable tip, which is good. The problem with these are they don't have any adjustment, when it comes to temperature, and that can be a problem. I don't recommend a really inexpensive soldering iron. If you're spending five, $10 on a soldering iron, save your money, save a lot of aggravation, and buy one that at least has some adjustability when it comes to the temperature.
