What is a city growth strategy?

- One of the primary functions of the urban design framework is making sure a city is properly prepared for future population growth and the many challenges that are going to come with it. So, let's just zoom out for a second. We know that in the world, 70% of the world's population currently lives in urban areas and that global trends are pointing to further migration into cities. We know that in the United States that we are expected to grow to 400 million people by 2050 and that a majority of this growth is going to occur in existing metropolitan areas. And in Portland, we have a forecast of growing by a quarter of a million people and producing 142,000 new jobs. And you know, the prospect of all of these new people moving into cities and neighborhoods changing, well, it can be scary for a lot of people.
