- Construction's been one of the slowest to really catch up with technology, and there's reasons for it. Project delivery methods have changed and evolved immensely, and that's one of the biggest drivers for technology in construction. You remember the days of hard bid, where I am bidding a set of drawings, and my goal is to be the low guy, knowing that I can make up some of that cost in change orders, due to whatever errors in drawings, or whatever, my goal is to just come in and be the low guy. I need to get the job in order to even be able to make money on the job, so my goal there is to be the low guy. There is no incentive for me, at that point, in that project delivery process, to push on research and development, to push on innovation, to try to provide value in any other way. My goal is only to be the low guy.
