True north vs. plan north

- [Instructor] Let's take a minute to address the concept of true north on a project versus what many refer to as the direction north on a set of construction drawings. Now, I know, you might be thinking north is north, right? Well, not always. Especially on civil drawings or in civil construction. On a set of architectural drawings like this one, or structural drawings, or really, any of the drawings related to a building or a facility being constructed, north typically refers to the top of the plan sheet. That gives us a compass type of layout that we can use when we're talking to others about the project. If I'm looking at a set of drawings like this and someone refers to the rooms located to the west of grid line eight. So let's zoom in. We look at grid line eight. And someone's talking about the rooms to the west of this grid line. They're talking about the offices. If they're talking about the rooms to the east…
