- [Instructor] Let's take a moment now to discuss team dynamics, particularly related to communications amongst the new product development teams. I'm going to be referencing a wealth of information that's available through the International Journal of Business Communication, who has done many studies related to this, and has provided a lot of guidance to international teams. One of the interesting components of communication that the International Journal found is that the manner of communication used by team members becomes more asynchronous as their geographic separation grows. Now, this makes perfect sense, because as the geographic separation grows, their time separation probably grows, too, so, if they're in different time zones. What they also found was that, as the graph shows here, communication mediums like phone and instant messaging become less important as geographic separation grows, and things like email and discussion forums become important.
