Resin printing workflow overview

- Like all 3D printing processes, the resin printing workflow starts with a 3D computer aid design, or CAD file. The design trade offs are quite a bit different than those for film and phase printers. - Techniques we describe in this movie apply to printers that use a tray of resin. Design practices and actual printing processes are completely different for resin jetting printers. - [Woman] The CAD file, usually in the common file format called stl is first imported into a slicing program. Printer manufacturer Formlabs for example, has a slicing program called Preform. The software flags various issues with the print. To fix these, it allows you to orient the print, add support structures, and preview the layers. If these don't solve the problem, you may need to go back and make changes to the design file. Once you're happy with the simulated print, the software will generate the detail commands that the printer executes.…
