Rendering a preview animation

- [Narrator] As I discussed at the very beginning of the course, in 3ds Max we have a couple of options for rendering using GPU, or the video hardware or graphics card, and these are known as Quicksilver and Nitrous. Now neither one of these is a so-called general purpose GPU renderer. There's a distinction between the features that are available through the standard graphics application programmer interface, such as Open GL or Direct X, and the ability to execute arbitrary code on the graphics processor. What does all of this mean? Well, the traditional way of rendering using the GPU is to basically utilize the features that have been programmed into the hardware using the graphics API, and you could do things like light a scene, basically, you know, render textures, and so on. But you don't have the ability to do things like calculate bounce light, or diffuse reflections using the standard, old school GPU rendering, and that's what Nitrous and Quicksilver allow you to do. There is…
