- [Female Instructor] There're many types of printers that print using a powder that's either sintered or sprayed with a binder. Nylon and metal are typically sintered with a laser and a process called SLS, which stands for selective laser sintering. Color prints are usually made of gypsum with an inkjet binder process. Realistically, you'll want to send out parts to a service bureau if you want to try out the technology, particularly for metal. These printers are more expensive and challenging to use compared to filament or resin, because of materials handling issues associated with powder. The powder is messy at best, an explosion hazard for some of the metals, so a casual, cheap, in-house test is not an option. - [Male Instructor] Powder printing allows some of the most aggressive use of 3D printing in terms of part complexity.
