Location and site design

- A building's location is one of the most important factors in its environmental impact. Did you know that transportation accounts for 33% of the greenhouse gas emissions? A building's location can reduce single-driver vehicle miles, provide accessible services by foot or public transit, and allow use of already developed sites with existing infrastructure. Green building starts at site selection. If an owner chooses to build in an already developed urban site, that site would provide opportunities for access to quality transit. It would provide alternatives to driving, such as a bicycle network. Less driving means reduced need for parking. Less parking means less pollution and more areas for open spaces such as parks. Choosing dense areas also provides availability of existing infrastructure. How 'about diverse uses? Don't you like being able to walk to the restaurants, to the coffee shops, to a grocery store?
