- [Instructor] The first steps in pricing a change order is to identify the work that is being changed, whether it's additional work, deleted work, or a combination of both. Typically, the owner, customer, will make a request in writing, and usually they will include revised drawings or at least a sketch to illustrate the changes. I'm going to show you a couple different examples here, some proposed changes and how to identify them and takeoff the work. Remember the takeoff sheet from our construction estimating takeoff course? I'm going to use an onscreen version of that to illustrate the takeoff, but you use whatever you would like, computer estimating software, a spreadsheet, even a pen and paper. The theory applies the same no matter what method you use. Here we have a written, formal request for proposal from a customer to make some changes to a job that we're working on.
