Designing an awning using the solar tool
- [Narrator] Let's assume that we're going to have windows on this side of the cafe, and we'd like to have an awning up here that shades the windows during the hottest time of the year. So looking at the solar tool, this is the summer solstice sunrise right here. So in this climate, I think we want to shade the windows maybe in this portion of the year. Maybe not all the way to the equinox because in March it's a little bit cold. So I think in this area we'd want to shade the sun. And also in the early morning hours it would be fine if the sunlight comes in the window. So at a certain point in the morning, but before noon up here, we'd like to start to shade the windows. So what I'll do here is draw a line from the origin point of the solar tool, and I'm just going to kind of arbitrarily pick a point up here on this arc to represent the altitude of the sun that I'd like to block. And of course this is very subjective, but I think that we can have a little bit more of an informed…
