From the course: Understanding the Architectural Design Process
Design phases overview
- Buildings aren't constructed overnight. There is a process, and process is very important to architects. As an architect, you'll first set the vision for the project, and then you'll guide the client and the project team through the many steps that result in the finished building. The major phases of any project include planning and predesign, schematic design, or SD, design development, or DD, construction documents, or CDs, bidding and negotiation, construction administration, or CA, and post-occupancy evaluation. All phases hold significance in delivering the complete project. These phases aren't always linear. Sometimes they may overlap. But your understanding and leadership are absolutely critical for the success of any project.
