- Breaking ground, or the official start of construction is an important milestone for every project. The architect will continue to maintain a central role. During construction administration, or CA, the architect has the important role of observing the work being performed to ensure it complies with the contract documents. It is important to note that the architect will not be responsible for supervising the work, construction site safety and the coordination of subcontractors. Those are all the General Contractor's responsibilities. For example, during a site visit, an architect could notice an unsafe condition, like a broken fence where someone can access the construction site. In this case, she may notify the contractor in writing, only to report the condition and allow the contractor to take corrective action.
