- Okay, now listen up because this is one of the most important parts of this course. If you only remember one thing from this course a year from now, I want you to remember this: concrete and cement are not the same thing, okay. In fact I'll tell you that many people, including those in the industry, say cement when they mean concrete. Cement is a dry gray powder and it's just one ingredient that's in concrete. Concrete in its simplest form is made up of water, sand, rocks and cement. And it takes all of these things to make the high-strength concrete that we use as a building material. So let's focus in on that cement component for a minute to make sure that you understand what it actually is. Again, in its final form, cement is a dry, gray, very fine powder, and cement's a manufactured product.
