- [Instructor] Now that we have a stepped footing family created what I'd like to do in this video is model a foundation wall. Then we're going to edit the profile to step that footing down. Load our stepped footing family in and see how it interacts with the existing wall and the existing footing, perfect. On our families let's go open browse where you're keeping your exercise files. I'm going to grab my stepped footing family then I'll click open. Again we can see our family. So if we select it make sure our materials are mapped out. Hit escape a couple of times, make sure that it's a work plane based. Everything's looking good. Let's go to the file tab, let's go to new, let's go to projects. We'll use our Imperial structural template, click okay. Now by default in the project browser I happen to be in level two. That's fine. On my structure tab click the wall button and let's click the type selector drop-down and go to foundation 12 inch concretes. For the depth instead of unconnected we'll send it down to level one. I'm just going to draw a nice wall like that, it's a long wall. It's okay though, hit escape a few times. Now let's go to our south elevation. I'm just going to double click on my elevation arrow. Check my wall it's going from level one to level two. Actually let's go back down to level one. Let's put a foundation on it and the structure tab let's click the wall button for foundation. Bearing footing 36 by 12. All right, I guess that works. Our family is parametric so we can make it work in any situation. Go ahead and pick your wall, now we have our foundation. Let's go back to our south elevation select your wall that you put in, you can just hover over the middle of it and pick it. On the mode panel click on edit profile on the drop panel click the line button. Come on over to about here I'm going to pick that point, I'm going to come down two feet. I'll come over four, down two over four down two. Hit escape a couple of times. This is a mirror that, so I pick a window around it type DM for drop mirror point. Pick the mid point here, point there on the dry panel click line from here to here, hit escape a few times. Type SL for splits. Make sure we have delete inner segment checked and pick a point there, pick a point there. Click finish. Nice. Go down to level one. Click this button right here, this is the close inactive views button. Right, go to our 3D tab here that's our footing family. Click load into project and close. Now make sure that we click place on work plane right here and we obviously have some size issues. So I'm just going to pick a point like right about here. Select your footing, click edit type make sure the foundation thickness is three feet. Click apply, click okay. But something tells me that thing's in the wrong spot still. So let's go to our south elevation and it is. Select the footing Let's just move it now. Click move, click disjoin and we're going to pick a point right here and we're going to move it right down to the end point of this footing right here. Excellent. Now we're going to copy it down to here. So click on copy, click multiple, click the end point here. It's copied down to here and then copy it down to here. Hit escape a few times. Something's funny though let's go to a 3D view. Let's set our visual style to realistic. That's funny looking it's the wrong material. It's okay, we have a parameter for that. Select your footing, now notice that we kept it as a type parameter so it's not going to show up here. If we are to change an item here it's only going to affect the one footing we have selected. We thought ahead and we made that a type parameter so click edit type. The structural material is right here. We're going to click on our browse button, we're going to grab concrete cast in place gray. If you can't find it just type in conc and it should show up. Click apply, click okay. Not only does it look the same but it actually will join itself to the foundation. Now the little steps don't look that great either. So I'm going to select my footing again, click edit type. And I think my heel depth should maybe be one foot six. Click apply, click okay. Now notice that our family is starting to work for us, right? If we go to the south elevation select these three footings by hitting the control key as you pick them. To DM for mirror draw access point pick the mid point of here up to here. You could even adjust that heel more if we selected edit type maybe that should be two feet that depth. Go to 3D view. Sets how you add a loaded family to a system component.
Q: Why can't I earn a Certificate of Completion for this course?
A: We publish a new tutorial or tutorials for this course on a regular basis. We are unable to offer a Certificate of Completion because it is an ever-evolving course that is not designed to be completed. Check back often for new movies.
