- [Instructor] We basically have two choices:…either call an API on the device or connect…over the internet to a service to help determine…our location.…I'm going to call an API on the device…as most devices have some means of obtaining their location.…The first part of the challenge is determining…the location of the device and using C#,…we have the option to use Xamarin…to both cross-platform applications, so either iOS…or Android applications, and being mobile devices,…most of them have a built-in GPS, some means…of obtaining their location, be it through a cell tower…or wifi mapping, some database helping them…to guesstimate their location.…
Another option is the .NET Framework for Windows,…lets us call the Windows location API,…and Windows will determine its location…based on GPS if available, and of course other options…also available underneath the covers,…and I thought I could use the .NET Core…cross-platform version of .NET, but unfortunately…location APIs haven't yet made it into .NET Core.…I expect it to be there eventually…
