- [Instructor] Do you play fantasy sports? If so, your in good company. In 2017, nearly 60 million people in the US and Canada played fantasy sports. In case you're not familiar with them, fantasy sports are online competition in which sports fans assemble fictional teams based on actual players and their currencies in performance statistics. This is big business, over 26 billion dollars was spent on fantasy sports in 2015 with sites offering million dollar prizes and people claiming that you can do this for your full time job. Now the problem is this. Whenever there is money, there is legal action and in 2006, Major League Baseball Advanced Media sued CBC Distribution and Marketing which runs a fantasy site over access to baseball player's statistics. Claiming that in doing so they were violating the players' quote, "right of publicity". And least you think this was a frivolous case, it went all the way to the US Supreme Court.
