- [Instructor] I love bad ball hitters. No, I don't mean players who hit poorly, but rather players who can hit balls that are outside the strike zone. My favorite is when Vladimir Guerrero hit a ball that bounced off the dirt in front of the plate. Amazingly, he got a single and scored a run on that play. Now when a ball hits the dirt, everybody knows that it's outside the strike zone, but sometimes we all need a little help to tell where the ball went exactly. That's why the television trick of superimposing a graphic of the strike zone and where each pitch went is so nice. It's a great example of how technology can be used to enhance the game. Now I specifically want to talk about augmented reality, and really what is augmented reality in sports? Well to give an extremely casual definition, augmented reality is technology that adds something to a broadcast that otherwise wouldn't be there. It's adding a digital layer to the video.
