- A big question you need to answer is if you'll offer implementation services. Most consultants don't. They usually generate recommendations and leave it up to the client to implement and execute the idea. If you do provide implementation services, know it's a different type of work than core consulting. It's much more like having a full-time job. While the money can be good, you need to understand exactly the type of work you're signing up for. When you're doing implementation work, it's time intensive. That takes time away from selling activities. Consider only doing implementation three or four days a week. Save one day for running your business and selling your services. Consider an hourly or daily rate for implementation services. Implementation tends to have more scope creep and a basic consulting engagement is going to be very different than those types of services.
