- In my career, I've had many occasions when I've spoken in front of hundreds of people. Inevitably, at some point a person will ask if I ever get nervous, I smile and nod my head and say, you're darn right I do. I can then sense that I've created a positive connection with that person. Vulnerability breaks down barriers, shows that you are real, and it ties in so closely with being authentic. Do you have any business colleagues that seem to have a wall around them at times and it's really difficult to know what they're thinking? They'll look at you and give a disinterested nod or worse yet, give no visible reaction and just stare into your eyes. Do you trust them? Do you feel confident in being open around them? Keeping a focused non emotional face can sometimes be a very effective strategy. As a salesperson, some of the best buyers I've met have mastered that skill.
